Sports in New York City

Friday, April 1, 2011

New York is certainly a city that loves its sports and cheers for the home team. New York is probably the best represented city and state in this country when it comes to major league teams. I've never quite seen it, but I honestly can not imagine a night when there is not some big sporting event takes place somewhere in this great city.

National Hockey League that almost did not go is back and strong. New York is well represented by the Ranger who reached an agreement this year to woo wonderful Shanahan away from the Red Wings. They play their home games at Madison Square Garden and have some of the most loyal fans. Even if you say Detroit and visit, and if the Rangers play at home then this is the perfect opportunity (assuming you can get a ticket) to file and see how Shanahan is adjusting to life in the Big Apple and if he misses life back to Joe.

Put hockey aside for the moment, there are many other professional sports, you can watch while you're visiting New York City. I think there are some baseball fans in this town somewhere. I say a little because it seems that they had to create two baseball teams to contain the fans. I will say however that these fans are loyal to a fault with the teams they support. The New York Mets and Yankees in New York represent the largest city in Major League Baseball and the two teams draw loyal support of all their fans.

The amazing thing to me is that the double-team did not end with baseball. It seems that New York also has two teams in the National Football League as well. The New York Giants and Jets both represent this beautiful city football fans across the country. Although I have no preference or preferred the same for all these teams and really have no idea how a city can survive with this kind of heated division. Obviously they are not as rabid as some hockey fans may tend to be or what would be civil war in the streets.

Joking aside, it seems that so far there is only one NBA team and they are the New York Knicks. I will not go into how it is unfair if misrepresent hockey and basketball because those guys could actually be the best market share, the whole town roots for them, not just half. With so many opportunities for major sporting events, it is surprising that men in this town get anything done without the realization of a portable handheld television with them at all times.

I do not know about your home, but in my house, it is quite difficult to schedule important events in our family life around a local team for each sport (and we do not even have a baseball team ). I can not imagine how women in New York do. But women and all men love you, I must say congratulations for your great support team and give your visitors many opportunities to watch such wonderful our sport when we're away from home too. It is difficult to identify one thing about this city that is the greatest, but that just might be.
